170 passengers were aboard the plane. you can see everyone going down the slides. there were minor injuries. >> some very scary homes for people on board. of course, people on the ground watching this, all of this happening at one of the world's busiest airports, chicago o'hare. you may have flown through here. one of the busiest airports. i will zoom you in here to runway 10l28r. it's one of the newer runners that they put in. o'hare expansion of runways. it's a major hub. as you can see the jet liner got halfway down the jetliner after aborting takeoff. the thick black plume of smoke can be seen for miles. you can see the damaged plane. the damage was on the right side. people were escaping out chutes on the left side. and this flight as we now know 383, was heading for miami. pilots reported an engine issue

explosion, possibly one of the plane's tires blowing and then saw the fire on the right wing of the boeing 767. billowing black smoke could be seen rising above the runway. emergency vehicles raced to the scene. chicago as you know had a horrific crash in 1979 involving an l-1011, people were certainly having flash backs of that terrible day. nothing that dire today. fortunately. passengers came down the emergency slides, buss were sent in to pick up and take them back to the terminal. passengers were then put on another flight to miami. first it was a clunk. after the clunk the explosion. and then the plane stopped real fast and we all just exiting. flight attendants were directing traffic and just unbelievable what they did. >> seven passengers and one crew member were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. the ntsb as always in an incident like this they are

and that will take months. and look at this in florida similar situation. fort lauderdale/hollywood international airport shut down after a fed ex plane catches fire on the runway. the faa says the plane's mainlanding gear collapsed and caught fire and the plane rolled off the runway. arrived from memphis. the local sheriff's department says only two people were onboard and no one was hurt. >> happening right now. a changing of the guard underway within the phoenix police depart retiring at a special ceremony this afternoon. >> and the swearing in ceremony underway for the new police chief, jerry williams. fox 10's danielle miller is live at the phoenix convention center. >> as you mentioned the ceremony going on right now as we speak. prior to the ceremony, chief joseph yahner was joined by dozens of family members and co-workers to wish him well and congratulate him on his wonderful career that we are

he totally just joined this police department together. and we are also showed you guys here that he received several awards from many different departments from around the valley. from maricopa county sheriff's department, the mesa police department and even the city of phoenix. take here a live look inside the ceremony going on. we are told there is nearly 600 people here taking part in this and we are going to tell you a little bit more about our new phoenix police chief, jerry williams. now she was the former chief of police at oxnard, but before that she was a long time officer with phoenix police department. i believe more than 20 years. so definitely has some experience there. she will be the first female chief of police here in phoenix. the second african-american to hold that position. now previously when she is overseeing this department here, the phoenix police department is ten times larger than the oxnard police department. there is 4,000 employees with the phoenix police department

underway, we interviewed chief joseph yahner about his feelings about the police department moving forward. >> i think jerry williams is a lot like me. i think she will lead the department similar how i have and she will do a great job. >> and after the ceremony wraps up, we will be speaking with the new phoenix police chief to get her take on what she sees for the future of the department in terms of chief joseph yahner, we asked him, do you have plans for your fut retirement? going to the beach? he says as of now, no permanent plans set in place but he is excited to wake up on monday morning with nowhere to go. reporting live, danielle miller, "fox 10 news." sometimes no plan is a good plan. a scottsdale family and police asking for help trying to catch a driver who hit a middle school teach and then took off a year ago this week marine brown was hit crossing 124th street at saguaro drive. the eighth grade teacher at

contest last night when the car drove through the crowd. >> after the crowd separated and we seen the silver vehicle coming straight to us, just in time i pulled my brother-in-law out of the way and i pushed my niece and nephew out of the way and the car barely missed us. >> miraculously, no one was hit or seriously hurt. police caught the driver a mile away and she is facing a number of charges including just in, joe arpaio pleads not guilty in his criminal contempt of court case the u.s. justice department prosecuting arpaio slapping him with crim in the charges after he was found in civil contempt of court over the summer. these charges stem from the immigration patrols that arpaio was ordered to stop but did not. with only 11 days until the election a major blow to hillary clinton's campaign. the fbi investigating new e-mails connected to the use of a private server.

criminal investigation back in july but are now reinvestigating maybe r-opening to see if any of these new e-mails contain classified information. the e-mails came to light because of an fbi investigation into former congressman anthony weiner's underage sexting controversy. weiner is the estranged husband of huma abedin. one of the aides was married to him and clinton did not comment on the investigation but her campaign is asking release more details. donald trump hoping the revelations will show -- will slow the momentum of her campaign. >> i have great respect for the fbi for writer right -- writing this wrong. the american -- righting this wrong. the american people understand her corruption and we hope all, all justice will finally be served. >> hillary clinton now holding a news conference and i'm not sure

>> yeah. they had been radio silent on this throughout really most of the day. >> one of the things she said and we apologize for getting to that conference late and we will turn some sound. she learned of this new investigation along with the media. that's one of the things she said. and she wants the fbi to release all new e-mails. she says she is confident the conclusion the fbi reached in july will not change. she is now -- she was taking questions from reporters but we unfortunately got to this too john podesta, her closest aide said today that he wants the fbi to come clean with everything they've got. get it on the table before the election we will see what happens in the next few days. by the way, hillary clinton will be making a stop in arizona next week. she will be in phoenix on wednesday. november 2 for an early vote rally this is proof positive that arizona is a battle ground state. the polls here have been neck and neck between trump and clinton.

tells you that they believe arizona is in play. the campaign is not yet released a location for that event on wednesday. but the website shows a 2:00 p.m. start time. you can reserve reservations at that event at hillary clinton.com. donald trump is heading back to phoenix tomorrow. it will be his seventh campaign stop in arizona. the rally will take place tomorrow afternoon at the phoenix convention center. the event is underway at 3:30 p.m. and doors open at 12:30 and get tickets at that earlier in the day. fox 10's nicole garcia tells us what happened next. >> it's probably a good thing they did not discuss politics during this ordeal.

great news for the great news for the cardinals. wideout john brown who missed the last game because he has sickle cell and a hurt hamstring is feeling better and should be back in action this sunday. the boys could use him. brown does so much when it comes to stretching that defense. he is so fast and that's why they call him smoky. he will burn you. the cardinals lost t wide receiver named brown. geron brown on the injured reserve list and floyd is banged up. getting smoky back will help the offensive board free agent wide receiver hubert was added to the roster this week. head coach bruce arians sounded happy to have his speedy receiver john smoky brown back in action. >> yeah, john did good. he is knocking on wood, traveling and stuff doesn't affect him. it's been handled a bunch. just each guy individually
